Survivor’s Standouts 4/13/13-Tax Edition

irs-tax-day-deadline-complain-celebration-tax_day-ecards-someecardsSo Monday is the, “big day” for all of you last minute tax preparers. If you’re like the bf you haven’t even started your taxes and won’t even think about doing so until midnight on Sunday. I keep asking him if he’s filed yet and he keeps saying that he’s, “on it” and not to “rush” him. Umm honey, I’m not rushing you, but the feds are!

My taxes, of course were completed and filed at least a month ago. I already got my refund money back and had it direct deposited into my savings account. I clearly didn’t do a very good job figuring out how much to have taken out of my check each month, because I got back slightly over $1000. Long story, short, I had changed my deductions last year because I was making a fair bit of money freelance writing and didn’t want to owe anything to the government.

This year I was more busy with work, so I didn’t make quite as much freelance income, and ended up getting a refund. But with that being said; with my new blogging adventures and some freelance work I’ve been picking up, I plan to keep my deductions the same this year and hopefully break even next year (no money paid in, no money paid out).

So, a few of you have noticed that my posting schedule has been a little bit off over the past week or so. I typically try to post on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and then do a survivor’s standouts post on Sunday mornings. This past week has been a little bit nutty (with good things that I’ll be sharing soon!) so I wasn’t able to put up a survivor’s standouts post last Sunday. I also forgot to schedule my Friday post, so my apologies (I know everyone was sitting on the edge of their seat waiting for one-wink).

I’ve been thinking about posting a survivor’s standouts post every other week instead of every week, but haven’t completely decided yet. I love thanking the folks who have mentioned me, and giving a shout-out to my favorite bloggers, but I dislike that I always seem to wait until the last minute to write them (and then I spend several hours in front of the computer, instead of spending quality time with the bf). Because we don’t get to spend a lot of time together during the week, it’s important to me that we try to reconnect on the weekends.

US friends and neighbors, Have you filed your taxes yet? Will you call my bf and ask him to file his please?

  1. I started doing link love posts every other week, because it’s so time consuming and I have so much on my plate. And I also wanted my picks to really stand out, and doing them every 2 weeks I feel accomplishes that 🙂

    Have a great weekend!!

Thanks Mackenzie. Good weekend can’t complain.

I’m amazed by how much time the standout posts take me. Longer then it takes me to write an actual post in most cases. I love to do them, but need to find a little better balance.

  2. My husband still hasn’t filed his! I’ve been telling him for about a month now, “You need to do your taxes.” He’ll probably put it off until tomorrow too!

Bf is doing his (or avoiding doing his as we speak). Ugg.

  3. LOL, we got our refund back weeks ago, like you, KK. Tell bf in love from the Frugal Farmers that it’s time to get moving. :-). Can’t wait to hear about the good things that are keeping you busy. 🙂

I’m going to tell him ya’ll said so. Maybe he needs motivation from someone who isn’t his naggy gf.

  4. We have already done our taxes. I prefer to get them done with!

Me too, not sure why he’d want the added stress of waiting until the last minute.

  5. Thanks for including my post! We haven’t filed yet. 🙁 We did our federal return on Tuesday and we’ll do the state one today and file tomorrow.

I like to get them done as soon as possible. Bf has always waited until the last minute. Doesn’t matter as long as they get done, right?

  6. You made my day! Thanks for including me. Was having a rough couple of days.

Oh yay! I’m glad I could give you a little pick me up.

  7. I also find that my wife and I don’t spend as much time together as I would like and so we try to make sure we spend at least 1 to 2 nights a week doing something together (normally on weekends). It only gets harder when you have kids…

Thanks for the shout out this week 🙂

I can’t even imagine what things would be like if we had kids. I guess I should start thinking about that. It’s hard enough to find time to be together without little ones.

  8. I did my taxes in January, and was surprised to get around the same back. I’ve changed my deductions to hopefully come out even for next time, as well. Great links!!

Thanks Anna, glad you enjoyed them. Hope you had a good weekend.

  9. Haha..I did mine and received my refund in February (thanks, property taxes and mortgage interest deductions!) 🙂

This will be the first year that we’ll have a mortgage deduction. I’ll be curious to see how much it will impact bf’s taxes (he’s taking the deduction since we’re not married and I think it will help him more than it would help me-bigger income).
