Paying Off debt? Building an Emergency Fund? Saving for a Vacation?
Here are some of my favorite ways to make money:
Swagbucks- swagbucks is a quick and easy way to make money and earn prizes (gift cards to Walmart, CVS, Starbucks and more). You earn points (called “swagbucks”) doing searches using the swagbucks search engine. You can also earn points for answering a daily poll question and printing and using coupons at the grocery store (10 points per coupon you redeem). 25,000 swagbucks gets you $25 cash (via paypal). My favorite prize at swagbucks is the $5.00 amazon gift card. There’s no limit on how many gift cards you can earn and you can use them to buy anything on Amazon (we use them to stock up on dog food, toiletries and gifts). Don’t get me wrong, you’re not going to get rich using swagbucks. But every little bit adds up, and the less money I spend on dog food, the more more I can save!
Blogging- I don’t make a fortune blogging, but I know several bloggers who have quit their full time jobs and/or significantly supplemented their 9-5 salaries with the money they earn blogging. Blogging isn’t a “quick and easy” way to make the big bucks, but it is a fun project and you might make a good little side hustle if you have a passion for writing. Once you gain some followers, you can offer advertising on your blog and put affiliate links (earn a commission each time someone clicks on an advertisement or purchases a product) on your pages. If you want to make money with your blog, you’ll need to register a domain name and self-host your blog. I recommend GoDaddy for domain names and BlueHost for hosting.
Bank Sign Up Bonuses- I wrote this post about why I like bank sign-up bonuses here. With the abysmal interest rates that most banks are currently offering, bank sign up bonuses are a great way to make a little extra money. I’ve been a customer with CapitalOne 360 for slightly less than a year. When I signed up with them I received a bonus just for opening for a checking account. Right now they’re currently offering a $50 sign up bonus for new customers who open a checking account and $25 sign up bonus for new customers who open a savings account (yes you can sign up for both-I did!). Just read the fine print to make sure you understand what you have to do to receive each offer.
ebay- Sell some “stuff”. Many of us have stuff around the house that we no longer need or use. Sell that stuff on ebay and make some cash. Don’t have anything to sell? Head to thrift stores, yard sales and the curb (yup I pick up stuff up off the curb and sell it). College campuses at the end of the school year are a great place to find free stuff on the curb. Furniture and other big items that would be too expensive to ship or wouldn’t sell well on ebay can be sold on Craigslist.
Freelance Writing- Freelance writing is a great way to earn extra income. If you love to write and are a versatile writer, there’s a lot of freelance work available. Beginner writers can expect to earn $15-$25 per 500 word piece. If you blog, you can use your blog posts as a portfolio to show companies the type of pieces you can create for them. If you don’t have a blog you can put together a basic portfolio with writing samples to show potential employers. I’ve had good luck finding blogging gigs at Problogger.
